About Me
I am a registered teacher with over 20 years of experience working with primary-aged children. Throughout my teaching career, I have held various roles, including classroom teacher, inclusive education teacher, and instructional coach. My passion lies in supporting students with specific learning difficulties, particularly in literacy development for children with dyslexia, and working closely with families to achieve positive outcomes.
As both a specialist educator and a parent of a child with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and executive function difficulties, I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by students and their families. This personal experience informs my empathetic and practical approach to teaching.
At Fullarton House, I facilitate structured, explicit sessions using the Multi-Sensory Playberry Dyslexia Program, rooted in the evidence-based Orton-Gillingham approach. This method is widely regarded as the gold standard in dyslexia remediation, offering a highly structured, sequenced, and synthetic phonics-based approach. Additionally, I provide individualised support in writing through ‘The Writing Revolution,’ a program designed to strengthen students’ skills at the sentence and paragraph levels.
In my part-time role as an instructional coach, I support the implementation of evidence-informed teaching practices. This position allows me to stay current with the latest educational research and transfer this knowledge into my specialised sessions.
My extensive experience working with diverse learners, alongside my formal training in ‘Teaching Students with Dyslexia 1 and 2’ and ‘The Writing Revolution,’ underpins the framework of my sessions. I offer tailored, targeted support in the following areas:
- Reading skills and strategies
- Spelling skills and strategies
- Handwriting development
- Sentence and paragraph-level writing
Student well-being is at the core of my teaching philosophy. I strive to create a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment where students can experience success, fostering both their self-esteem and motivation.
